Event Honors the Spirit of Polo with Special Guests Dame Helen Boehm and Bill Ylvisaker
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA (February 26, 2008) – Internationally recognized as one of the premier players in the history of the sport, Carlos Gracida has been named as Honorary Polo Chairmen of the 18th Annual Red Cross Polo Luncheon & Auction on March 9 at International Polo Club Palm Beach. Having reached the ultimate polo rating of 10-goals at the age of twenty-five, Gracida then rode on to capture the most prestigious polo trophies around the world.
Gracida has won the U. S. Open Championship on nine different occasions; the Argentine Open five times; the British Open a record ten times; and the World Cup seven times. He has been named both Player of the Year five different times and Argentina’s revered Olimpa de Plata, the prestigious award for the most valuable polo player in the country.
With the focus on the ‘sport of kings’ at this year’s upcoming Red Cross Polo Luncheon, honored guests Helen Boehm, polo-enthusiast and sponsor of the Boehm Polo Team and Bill Ylvisaker, founder of Palm Beach Polo and Country Club will be in attendance and recognized with special honors.
Dame Helen Boehm is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Boehm Porcelain Studio, internationally acclaimed for creating the finest sculptures of porcelain birds, flowers and animals. A polo-devotee for over 30 years, Boehm has watched her team win the World Cup title two times.
Ylvisaker, former chairman of Gould Corporation in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, is the man behind Wellington. In 1977, he masterminded the creation of a new planned urban development and community: Palm Beach Polo and Country Club and Wellington. A polo player and Yale graduate, Bill founded the Polo Training Foundation, was Chairman of the USPA, founded the World Cup championships and the Professional Polo League. Bill also held a 7-goal handicap.
This highly anticipated luncheon will feature champagne, authentic Brazilian Caipirinhas, an International silent auction, live entertainment by The Tito Puente, Jr. Orchestra, a fabulous lunch and VIP veranda seating for the Piaget Gold Cup match with a crepe station, coffee, full bar and hand-rolled cigars.
