WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2008) — The Sixth Annual American Red Cross Clewiston Golf Tournament raised over $10,000 for disaster relief and life-saving training within the community. The golf tournament was held Saturday, February 23 at the Clewiston Golf Course and was attended by 75 golfers.
The tournament winner was from the Seminole Tribe, with team members Charlie Cypress, Salaw Hummingbird and Cicero Osceola. The second place team was Skip Sheppard, Hap Miller and Mark Mitzner. The third place spot going to Jimmy McDuffie, Gene Carr and Philip Roland.
Major sponsors for the event included Hendry County Board of Commissioners, City of Clewiston, Clewiston Fire Department, McDuffie Electric & A/C, Inc., Everglades Federal Credit Union, Gastven Inc. Many other local businesses sponsored raffle prizes.
In total over $10,000 was raised to support the American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter, Glades Area Branch. Money raised will go to support community programs and assist area residents displaced by house fires.
