Large organization wide effort currently underway for Hurricane Gustav

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 27, 2008) — A local American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter volunteer, Steve Bayer, will be departing tomorrow morning to assist with Hurricane Gustav.  Tomorrow also marks the three-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Steve Bayer is a resident of Boynton Beach and a Red Cross Advanced Public Affairs Team (APAT) member.   APAT members are highly trained and depart for hurricanes 24-48 hours prior to landfall.  Mr. Bayer serves the Red Cross in a Public Affairs capacity, assisting with media relations within a disaster area.

In addition to Hurricane Gustav, Bayer had assisted with many other disasters including September 11th, Hurricane Katrina (twice), Enterprise, AL Tornado and the California Wildfires.

Assignment Editors Note: Mr. Bayer will be at the previously scheduled water drive, at Zia Restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens between 10 am and 11:30 am.  The address is 4350 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens.  Individual interviews can be scheduled by calling Joe Hansen at 561-779-4377.
