Team of Red Cross Youth Volunteers Delivers Critical Message for Fire Safety Month

WHAT:                On Friday, October 16, a group of 15 Red Cross youth volunteers will spend their day off from school by going door-to-door in the Lake Clarke Shores neighborhood with an important message: The biggest disaster threat to families across our nation every day isn’t floods, hurricanes or tornadoes, it’s fire. The motivated group of students, ages 10 to 17, will walk the West Palm Beach neighborhood hanging Red Cross Fire Safety Tips on the front door of each home as part of the Chapter’s revamped youth volunteer program. Each October hundreds of organizations join forces to promote fire prevention. So far this month, the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has responded to an alarming 10 house fires, assisting a total of 31 adults and children with their immediate emergency needs including food, shelter, clothing and additional help to pick up the pieces.
